Senegal Employability Roundtable
Quality higher education is essential for integrating young people into the labor market and developing Senegal. Rapid global changes make it crucial to adapt education to new economic and technological needs.
IFC and the World Bank, with Senegal’s Ministry of Higher Education, organized a roundtable on employability on February 6. Collectively, they explore how to align training with employment needs. With 74% of graduates unemployed long-term and 25% of jobs changing within five years, modernizing education is vital for Senegal’s Vision 2050.
To support this, IFC and the World Bank launched the “Career Tips” page on Vitae. This platform, presented at the Dakar roundtable, offers French-speaking students:
- 10 mini-videos on key topics such as personal branding, interview preparation, and salary negotiation.
- A set of resources, including access to Career Genie, an AI-powered career advisor
- An Employability Challenge for Job Seekers to check their knowledge of career best practices
This initiative aims to help Senegalese, and French speaking, students prepare for employment and encourages institutions to create their own online content. It shows that impactful tools can be developed even with limited resources. Integrating digital literacy and AI into training, and strengthening university-business collaboration – measures essential for success. Programs like Vitae, the Digital for Tertiary Education Program, and the ESPOIR-JEUNES project support this transformation by helping institutions better prepare students for their careers.
